Meet Ben Franklin
Ben was born in Boston to a candle maker. He made important contributions in politics, science, journalism, and education and was known for his great wit. He was also one of the founding fathers who helped form America as an independent country.
He wrote Poor Richard’s Almanac which collected his wise sayings. He was an early pioneer in experimenting with electricity. He flew a kite during a lightening storm with a key tied to the string. If not for the key - he would have been electrocuted. He also started the first state university, opened the first library, and printed the first national newspaper.
